Admission Requirements

Admission to the Master’s Degree Program in Medical Engineering is subject to an evaluation process based on curricular requirements (academic background) and on the verification of the candidate’s personal preparation, in order to assess suitability for the program.

Applicants wishing to enroll in the Master’s Degree in Medical Engineering must hold a three-year university degree (Bachelor’s degree) or equivalent qualification obtained abroad and officially recognized, and must possess adequate knowledge in the core subjects of industrial and information engineering (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), in the disciplinary fields characterizing these degree classes (mechanics and electronics), as well as in the fundamentals of biomedical engineering and medicine.

For admission, students are required to have acquired at least 39 ECTS credits in the core subject areas of engineering, including:

  • at least 21 ECTS in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics (MAT/02, MAT/03, MAT/05, MAT/06, MAT/07, MAT/08, MAT/09, SECS-S/01, SECS-S/02, INF/01, ING-INF/05), of which at least 15 must be in MAT/05;
  • at least 18 ECTS in Physics and Chemistry (CHIM/03, CHIM/07, FIS/01, FIS/03).

Furthermore, the following ECTS in disciplinary fields characterizing mechanicselectronics, as well as fundamentals of biomedical engineering and medicine are required:

  • at least 6 ECTS in Mechanics (ING-IND/13);
  • at least 6 ECTS in Electronics (ING-INF/01);
  • at least 6 ECTS in Biomedical Engineering (ING-IND/34, ING-INF/06);
  • at least 6 ECTS in Biology (BIO/09, BIO/10, BIO/16).

In addition, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English at a level not lower than B2 of the CEFR, or an equivalent certification. The specific verification methods (which may include exemptions for candidates holding an appropriate certificate) are outlined in the admission procedures. For students whose native language is not Italian, a threshold-level knowledge of the Italian language is also required.

Pre-registration is permitted for applicants who, by the date of official enrollment, have no more than three exams left to complete and a maximum of 24 ECTS credits outstanding.
